Great Poker Movies

What’s the greatest poker, card playing, or as the French say poker en ligne (online poker) movie ever made? Think about it for a while, because there are tons of them out there, and not are all as obvious as it might seem.

There were cards played in Casablanca, for example; and there was a short, deadly game in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Those aren’t poker movies, mind you, but they do have pretty intense poker games, so keep that in mind.

There are obvious ones like 21, based on Bringing Down the House, and Rounders, which is about nothing BUT poker on the mean streets and underground poker rooms of New York City.

James Bond played a few high stakes hands in Casino Royale, but let’s not forget that there was an original Casino Royale too. Which was better? It’s pretty much a matter of opinion (my vote is for Daniel Craig).

And there’s also Ocean’s Eleven, which is set in Vegas and features a lot of vault robbing, but it features some card playing too. When the characters are being introduced, Bard Pitt’s character is seen teaching some Hollywood actors how to play poker (5-card draw). He fails miserably, but it makes for a good scene.

So which is it? Which is the best poker movie, card movie or otherwise?
